Description: Schuberth E1

The Schuberth E1 Helmet offers a modular helmet for adventure riders, designed to perform when the ride leaves the pavement. The design team at Schuberth developed the E1 in the proprietary aeroacoustics laboratory at Schuberth, resulting in a helmet optimised for both aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance. The Anti-Roll-Off System from Schuberth keeps the helmet in place, while the removable and washable inner lining allows riders to keep their helmet clean between adventures.

One of the most revolutionary features is the completely articulated peak viewfinder, which can be modified independently of the face shield and chin bar to three different locations. The E1 can be worn in place with both the face shield and peak, or riders can easily choose to remove either piece for the ride. The E1 also features a closable air vent in the chin bar to ensure that riders get enough air as the ride intensifies, while a removable and washable philtre in dirty and dusty conditions will help to clean the air.

The E1 includes an integrated antenna for Schuberth’s SRC-System PRO. Using the latest in Cardo communication technology, the Bluetooth SRC-System acts as an intercom with other riders and can connect to a GPS unit, MP3 player or mobile phone for navigation, music listening or phone calls.

Quietest helmet I’ve owned

During a recent tour to Germany and Czech Republic I found the level of road noise from my Arai uncomfortable over longer periods, especially on the way home when we covered 550 miles in a day. When I got home I researched adventure / sports helmets and followed reviews and plumped for the Schuberth E1, and I’m glad I did. The fit is superb straight out of the box, and it’s light too with good visibility. My first outing was a weekend trip to Belgium visiting the battlefield of Ypres, so some motorway riding followed lots of stops at the various sites, taking the helmet on and off. It was comfortable throughout and the integrated sun-visor came in very handy with a low sun that disappeared at regular intervals. I ordered the helmet a couple of days before departure and it arrived, as promised the next day from Sportsbikeshop. I have used them often and the service is always exemplary. Overall, very happy with this purchase. Dave S, Sportsbikeshop customer

Huge disappointment

The Good + quality build, well fitted elements + generous inner lining, good sweat-wicking + good quality paint finish, hard to scratch The Bad – the peak design is a joke, does literally nothing – the visor does not lock in open or vent position properly – the Pinlock was not fitted properly and now after a year fell off completely. Not the best helmet I’ve ever had. Could be good but has flaws that, bearing in mind the price tag are unforgivable. The peak is too short and does literally nothing to protect from low sun. Comparing it to Nexx DX1 the peak is really badly designed here. The visor and the fitted Pinlock is the biggest disappointment. It was fogging a lot from day one and even refitting the Pinlock didn’t help much. Now that the Pinlock fell off completely I’m totally disappointed. The ventilation is average at the most. Three year review

I’ve worn this helmet for 3 years, using a liner to keep it clean. It fits well, the peak is nice riding into the sun, and though a bit heavy it’s well-balanced. The ventilation was a disappointment; my C3 was better, but all in all a good helmet. My biggest complaint is the visor mechanism has failed five times in three years, so the visor shuts completely at 10mph, if I hit a small bump, or even when I first sit on the saddle. If I’m lucky it happens on the way to a rally where Schuberth has replacement parts on hand. But postage is a lot each way if I have to send it in. If Schuberth can’t figure out how to make a decent visor hinge I’ll switch brands when this one wears out. Peter B, RevZilla customer
