Thanks to F.E.A. (finished element analysis), the S900 benefits from the new development process. This method is taken from virtual crash tests run by the automotive industry. Real crash tests come later to complete and strengthen Shark’s imperative safety procedure. The department of design puts maximum passion and creativity into the S900. The result? Good value
I wanted a helmet for to throw on for running to shops, & commuting on scooter. I wanted a built in sun visor and because I keep it under the seat and previous helmets have get smelly ! removable lining. So Shark 900, Fit is good, does not have the thick cushioned padding of more expensive brands but still comfortable, lining removal / replacement is reasonably straight forward.
Internal sun visor works well, is nicely dark and operates by lever on left side of helmet. Gentle dropping of sun visor recommended, too quick and expect a bang on the bridge of your nose. Quick “ratchet ” type chin strap fitting is less faffing about than D ring but is quite bulky and may be uncomfortable for some. Vents are small but do allow for a flow of air. Visor seals well during heavy rain. Helmet is fairly quiet and acceptable for short trips. Comes with Pinlock insert, detachable chin curtain (great for the winter, ) and helmet bag. Doesn’t feel restrictive
I’ve always been Large in helmet size and my last helmet (Shoei) was so tight, I often wondered if I’d picked up my wife’s helmet by mistake! So I ordered the ‘L’ but it still moved when I shook my head so I ordered the ‘M’ and it fits perfectly. Maybe your head shrinks as you get older – or maybe it’s the reduction of hair quantity. However, I don’t feel ‘trapped’ like I did with the Shoei helmet; perhaps it’s because this one has slight recesses around the ears for glasses/intercoms etc?
The included Pinlock makes it very good value at the sale price and fitting it was easy after a quick look online for a video of how to do it. Due to its design, the Pinlock doesn’t cover the whole of the visor, so low down in your peripheral vision it can look as if you haven’t closed your visor properly, but I can get used to that. The Pinlock is an excellent system and a great step forward in biking comfort.
What I have to re-learn now is not cracking open the visor and breathing very shallowly, whenever I stop! The drop-down sun visor is another step forward – I no longer have to take my sunglasses with me and stop to put them on/take them off each time the sun goes in or comes out – I just operate the lever on the helmet. All in all a great purchase and with a five year warranty I have the confidence that it will serve me well for the coming years. Carl, SportsBikeShop customer
Great fit, good price, looks good
Took me a long time to find a helmet that fits me snugly without any pressure points. I have a 58.5cm head and a shape that’s in between an intermediate oval and slightly round and this helmet in large is perfect. I wear glasses and it accommodates them well even with the visor down. I would point out that when wearing glasses and stationary the breath deflector channels hot air directly onto my glasses, this was easily fixed by removing the deflector which is easily done.
