Description: AGV K5S

In an unyielding search of sport touring perfection, AGV re-examined the already-steady ergonomics of the celebrated K5 Helmet, gutted it and completely overhauled it from the inside out. To think that “good enough” does not translate well into Italian. The AGV K5 S Helmet features an advanced comfort lining, using a special combination of high-performance Microsense-treated Ritmo and Shalimar fabrics with wicking moisture and antimicrobial properties. The meticulous composition is careful to avoid seams in sensitive areas, so no stitching is required to cause discomfort. The Integrated Ventilation System’s vents are recessed and the integrated spoiler is moulded into the carbon fibre and fibreglass blended shell for a seamless design optimised for aerodynamic stability at high speed. The result is the AGV K5S Helmet, a helmet that will push you to ride beyond what you consider possible.

Very nearly excellent

Lighter than my old Arai. Sun visor works perfectly (on many other helmets the sun visor hits my nose). Visor and pinlock excellent, no fogging. I didn’t see mentioned anywhere the 3 visor inserts (touring, race and urban) that let you change where the notches are when opening and closing the visor – brilliant. Plenty of vents. Very pleased with it.

Niggles: It’s a bit draughty inside – probably welcome in summer but not in January! The base is not flat so it doesn’t sit very securely (e.g. if you place it on your bike seat). They have fitted a press-stud to the loose end of the chin-strap so you can snap it up to stop it flapping about in the wind… but it really gets caught in the D-rings when you try to take the lid off. Fortunately, the press-stud is easy to remove. Dave R, SportsBikeShop customer

Almost perfect

This helmet is very light weight, looks awesome, great quality without braking into the $600+ range, has the tinted drop-down inside. They mentioned that the vents are hard to operate with gloves on, but I haven’t really had any issue with they, though you have to pull more to the side than straight up on them which takes some getting used to.

I only have 3 negative things to say about this helmet. First I would have liked the look better had the AVG emblem been dark, like the helmet is flat black, and it would have looked a lot better had the emblem been either a dark shade of grey, or gloss black. Second, the chin strap while very comfortable is much more narrow than other helmets I have had in the past making it more difficult to loop with gloves on, and the snap to keep it from flapping in the wind is on it’s own separate tab so you have to put your thumb behind it to get it to snap (a very minor complaint overall). Last and the biggest one is the chin curtain that comes with it does not come back near far enough. It needs to be about 3/4″ to 1″ longer.

It lets tons of wind in making it very loud as is. THAT SAID I modified a chin curtain off another helmet which does go back much farther, and this baby is super quiet now. One last thing I would like to point out is their sizing is much larger than other helmet brands (or at least Icon’s). I would advise getting the size you normally wear, and the size smaller, try them both on, and then send back the one that doesn’t fit right. All in all fantastic helmet, just needs a better chin curtain really. As it is I would give it 4 stars, but easily a 5 star helmet if you go the extra mile to put a better chin curtain in it. Great helmet with two minor niggles

I’ve been riding round with the K5 now for a couple of weeks now, a mixture of slow city riding and faster long all day treks. I bought it because my head fits AGV’s better than anything else, they are a well made quality product and I trust it to do its job. Its light you hardly know you have got it on and it was a decent price for the spec.

I like the padding inside, its relatively quiet ( weirdly apart from high speeds when I’ve got my rucksack on). I breath through my mouth and I’m glad it comes with a Pinlock antifog, because when its cold or raining it fogged up without it a very welcome addition. I should really try to breath through my nose more because of it, the tinted visor does get a bit of fogging when cold if I don’t. Talking of the flip down tinted visor…great idea, I used to just ride round with dark visors all the time but this can obviously cause problems at night.

I wear headphones on long journeys to listen to my Sat-Nav, and the shape of the padding inside allows them in without squashing into my ears. Ventilation could be better, on really hot days like we’ve just had over the weekend I felt hot in the helmet to the point I had to flip up the visor and let some fresh air in. All in all though I would recommend the K5-S in a heart beat. David F, SportsBikeShop customer
